I've actually lost just over four stone now, as I've continued to walk and, thanks to the increased fitness levels that gave me, I've taken up running too - something I never thought I'd say! Having struggled with my weight all my life - in the sense that I didn't like how much I weighed and wanted to lose weight for myself and for my health - I know how difficult it can be to figure out the right way to lose weight sensibly. There are a lot of confusing messages out there.
Women are bombarded with information about faddy diets and weight loss quick-fixes all the time, and I think this creates a situation where the focus of any weight loss is diet. Exercise is all too often sidelined, as I wrote about in my post on the TV programme 'Secret Eaters'. Yet walking is easy, free and accessible to almost everyone and it genuinely can make a big difference to people's health and help them lose weight. It certainly has for me.
I've particularly enjoyed building up my photo gallery and seeing the pleasure it's brought to other people, not just me. It's been great capturing all the wonderful locations I've been to this year - it's hard not to get excited about doing more when I can look back over the landscapes I've seen.
I also hope I've done my bit to convince more people of the potential for urban walking. Admittedly, I have vented some of my walking bug bears too, but I hope my continued passion for making walking part of every day life has still come through. I've certainly done my best to bring some of the great sights to be seen around the city to readers, and if they don't convince you it's worth taking a wander around the city I'm not sure what will.
Here's to another year of happy walking!
